Shellac is Steve Albini's band. You may know him from his recording of over 1500 records, including Godspeed's YANQUI UXO, Pixies' Surfer Rosa and Nirvana's In Utero. Shellac are a post-punk band, and really good one too. They have been making music since 1992, and their last album, Excellent Italian Greyhound, was released in 2007 to much acclaim.

The Jam était un groupe Anglais très actif vers la fin des années 70 et le début des années 80. Tandis qu’ils partageaient l’attitude de "jeunes hommes en colère" et les tempos rapides de leurs confrères punk rock contemporains, The Jam portaient de jolis complets plutôt que des vêtements déchirés et incorporaient un nombre d’influences rock des années 60 au lieu de les rejeter. Ils ont eu dix-huit singles consécutifs au Top 40 en Angleterre, de leur début en 1977 jusqu’à leur séparation en 1982, incluant quatre numéros un. Pour ce qui est de 2007, les chansons That's Entertainment et Just Who Is the 5 O' Clock Hero? demeurent les meilleures ventes en importations en Angleterre. Ils ont diffusés un album live ainsi que six albums studios, dont le dernier, The Gift, s’est placé au premier rang sur les chartes anglais. Quand le groupe s’est séparé, la totalité des 18 singles furent re-diffusés et ils se sont tous placés dans le top 60.

En 2007, deux des membres fondateurs de The Jam, Bruce Foxton (bassiste) et Rick Buckler (batteur) décidèrent de partir en tournée de l’Angleterre pour célébrer les 30 and de The Jam : un événement historique pliant sous la pression des fans, jeunes et vieux. Le groupe furent à guichet fermé pendant leur tournée de 20 dates en mai 2007. Sur cette nouvelle force, From The Jam a ensuite effectué une tournée en Amérique, en Nouvelle-Zélande et en Australie aux mois de janvier et février de cette année.

Septembre 2008 verra la diffusion mondiale de From The Jam – A First Class Return, qui présente 90 minutes de performances live à haute teneur en énergie, capturés à Londres dans la salle “The Forum”, avec un CD audio inclus et des interviews exclusifs et jamais diffusés avec Bruce Foxton, Rick Buckler et les nouveaux membres du groupe, Russell Hastings (voix) et Dave Moore (guitare).

Pop Montréal lance son festival en force… avec la musique de The Jam !

The Jam were an English mod revival band active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. While they shared the "angry young men" outlook and fast tempos of their punk rock contemporaries, The Jam wore neatly tailored suits rather than ripped clothes and incorporated a number of mainstream 1960s rock influences, rather than rejecting them. They had eighteen consecutive Top 40 singles in the UK, from their debut in 1977 to their breakup in 1982, including four number one hits. As of 2007, That's Entertainment and Just Who Is the 5 O' Clock Hero? remained the best-selling import singles of all time in the UK. They released one live album and six studio albums, the last of which, The Gift, hit number one on the UK album charts. When the group split up, all 18 singles were re-released and all placed within the top 60.

In 2007, founding members of The Jam, Bruce Foxton (bassist) and Rick Buckler (drummer), decided to tour the UK to celebrate 30 years of The Jam: an historical event bowing to pressure from fans old and young alike. The band sold out a 20-date UK tour in May 2007. On the strength of that tour, From The Jam toured America, New Zealand and Australia in January and February of this year.

September 2008 sees the worldwide release of From The Jam - A First Class Return, 90 minutes of hi-energy live performance of Jam hits captured at London’s “The Forum”, with an audio CD included, and previously unseen and exclusive interviews with Bruce Foxton, Rick Buckler, and new band members, vocalist Russell Hastings and guitarist Dave Moore.

Irma Thomas (b. February 18, 1941, Ponchatoula, Louisiana) is a Grammy Award winning soul and rhythm and blues singer from New Orleans. She is known as the "Soul Queen of New Orleans."

Thomas is a contemporary of Aretha Franklin and Etta James, but never experienced their level of commercial success; still, she has a large cult following among soul aficionados. In 2007, she won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album for After the Rain, her first Grammy in an acclaimed career spanning over 45 years.

Irma Thomas est une incroyable chanteuse de soul qui a déjà chanté en duo avec B.B. King. Les vrais fans de ce genre de musique lui vouent un culte sans borne. Elle a été découverte à la même époque qu'une certaine Aretha Franklin! Certains iront même jusqu'à dire qu'elle méritait autant de reconnaissance...

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble bring the original jazz soul back. They are a 9-piece from New York featuring 8 sons of trumpet player and Sun Ra Arkestra member Phil Cohran. As an acoustic outfit, they played everywhere from parks to subways and back alleys. Next step is POP Montreal!

The Dears were never dead but still heve been reborn. It's the first time anyone in Montreal will see them in their new form. The only ones remaining of the old band are the duo of Natalia Yanchak and Murray Lightburn. They will release their new album Missiles in the coming months!

We are excited to announce an incredible show as one of the highlights of the 7^th edition of the Pop Montreal International Music Festival featuring legendary songwriter and hit-maker Burt Bacharach. The show will take place on Friday October 3^rd at the magnificent St-Jean-Baptiste Church.

Six decades into one of songwriting’s most successful and honored careers – marked by 48 Top 10 hits (including; Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head, Walk On By, Alfie, What The World Needs Now), nine #1 songs, more than 500 compositions and a landmark 50+-year run on the charts, Burt Bacharach’s music continues to set industry records and creative standards. “At This Time”, his 2005 album, which won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album, broke new ground with Bacharach’s first-ever lyrical collaborations, supplementing the melodies which reflect the pioneering Bacharach sound. He says it is the “most-passionate album” of his career as “At This Time” marked the first time Bacharach took on social and political issues in his music.

Bacharach’s global audiences span several generations, and he is viewed as the unique combination of one of the greatest composers of all time and the ultra-cool cult hero of the contemporary music set who often has several songs on various music charts in many countries simultaneously. His many concerts are SRO, as he tours the United States and the world conducting orchestras and with his own musicians and singers performing his music. Check out Zombie Zombie’s MySpace page: The graphics resemble a 1984 Atari console and the music (awesomely) resembles industrial from the same era. So their roots may seem a little outdated, but the insistent drumming, driving synths, and infectious energy situate Zombie Zombie very much in the present. (MC)

Un autre groupe qui a copié/collé son nom deux fois, s'inspirant sans doute de Pizza Pizza. Ces zombies-là tirent leur nom d'un jeu vidéo datant de la fin des années 80, dont la trame sonore rappelle un peu la musique du duo : des claviers et du rythme. Se voulant en lignée directe avec Suicide et Silver Apples, leur bruit qui amalgame drum et synthé prend quelques fois une tournure Krautrock. (RE)
