Overnight

Halifax, NS

Big riffs, tender harmonies and melancholy memories are the building blocks of Carla and Lynette Gillis’ intimate style of sibling rock ’n’ roll. On their second album as Overnight, released in November 2025, they're coming through changes, including relocating from their long-time base of Toronto to their hometown of Halifax after their dad's death in 2020.

Like on their first album, loss and grief are in the picture on Put Me In Your Light, released on vinyl via Toronto's Label Obscura. But so is a renewed optimism. The ten tunes swing between tenderly vulnerable slow songs and melodic riff-heavy rockers that the sisters have become known for in their previous projects, which include beloved 90s teen band Plumtree (of Scott Pilgrim fame).

During their rare live performances, Carla and Lynette are joined by Halifax indie rock heroes Nancy Urich (Dog Day, Not You, The Burdocks) on guitar, Jess Lewis (Surprise Pink, Dark for Dark) on bass, and Meg Yoshida (Penny & the Pits, Dog Day, Century Egg, Not You) on synths.
