Willy Moquette

Montréal, QC

“Hello, my name is Arnaud, also known as Willy Moquette. I am 30 years old (as of today) and have been practicing pottery since 2021. Having moved to Montreal a month ago, I create mugs, bowls, bottles, and various types of terracotta dishes with the aim of bringing joy to people. Originally from northern Catalonia, I had the opportunity to discover working with clay alongside artists from all over the world (Toulouse, Chamonix, Percé, Mont-Tremblant).

My world is colorful, original, a little childlike, but above all very joyful. I put a lot of positive energy into each unique piece, with the aim of making it a source of joy for the user. I love how a simple everyday object can sometimes be enough to brighten up a moment, a cup of coffee specially chosen for a particular beverage, a plate used to serve a particular dish… And that is precisely the effect I seek to achieve. I like the idea that my works (or my pseudonym) tend to bring a smile to people’s faces. My style could be described as naive, pop, or even “funky.” I draw a lot of inspiration from children’s book illustrations, comic books, memories, and intuition to give my pieces a fun character and sometimes even a story.

Someone in a workshop once said that my pieces made them feel “full of good cheer.” That’s probably the best compliment I could hear about my creations. The idea of participating in this year’s flea market and having the chance to spread that good cheer fills me with joy.
